Extremely rare original U.S. Army metal sign, marked:

“310th Amm’n Train – 85 DIV. U.S.A. – 40”

Beautiful blue enamel background with raised white letters, showing excellent period wear and patina.

The 310th Ammunition Train was part of the 85th Infantry Division (“Custer Division”), organized in 1917 and reactivated in World War II for operations in the Italian campaign. Ammunition Trains handled the transport and delivery of artillery shells and small-arms ammunition from rear depots to the combat zones — a vital but often overlooked part of the logistical war effort.

This sign would have been used on vehicle convoys, depot gates, or transport trucks, helping identify the unit in the field. The multiple mounting holes and edge corrosion are consistent with heavy wartime use.

Material: enamel-coated steel

Dimensions: approx. 30 × 15 cm (12 × 6 in)

Condition: original patina and field wear; no restoration; paint and enamel aging visible

Period: ca. 1917–1945

➡️ A rare surviving original from the U.S. Army Ammunition Train – a striking display piece for any serious U.S. Army or logistics collector.
